Children are back in school and we need your help to pack our pantries with packaged food for children in need.  Bring single-serving packaged food on August 27, 4 pm to 7 pm, Joy FM 90.7 at Chick-fil-A in Brooksville or to any of 13 sites in Citrus County at any time.

Pack the Pantry for Citrus County Blessings

Children are back in school so we need donations of nonperishable food to send home with children in need.

August 27, 4 pm to 7 pm, Joy FM 90.7 at Chick-fil-A in Brooksville

Citrus County Blessings is partnering with Joy-FM on August 27 to receive donations of individual-sized food items at the Chick-fil-A in Brooksville at 13143 Cortez Blvd.  The “#Bejoy Backpack” food collection will take place at 16 locations throughout Florida. Joy FM is giving a free backpack to anyone who comes by to drop off food, grocery gift card, or monetary donation that day between 4 and 7 pm.

Food donations may be made at any time at one of several local businesses who collect donations for Citrus County Blessings. Collection sites include:

Anytime Fitness in Inverness and Homosassa
Church of Christ or Floral City Library in Floral City
Citrus County Tax Collector in Crystal River and Inverness
KC Wine and Coffee Bar in Crystal River
Nature Coast Bank in Hernando
Regions Bank in Beverly Hills, Crystal River and Inverness
Suncoast Credit Union in Crystal River and Inverness

Blessings Fills the Weekend Hunger Gap for 1500 children

Citrus County Blessings provides weekend food to over 1500 children in 26 schools in Citrus County.  There are 68 hours over the weekend when children do not have access to free or reduced breakfast or lunch at the school.   Blessings sends home 12 to 15 breakfast and lunch items to help bridge the weekend hunger gap.  Teachers, guidance counselors or any other staff member who encounter a student facing food insufficiency at home can refer a student to Blessings.

Packaged Food Items Needed:

Individually sized and nonperishable food items appropriate for children and youth are needed.

Breakfast items: oatmeal packs, breakfast bars, single-serving cereal boxes
Fruit:  fruit cups, applesauce cups, fruit snacks, fruit pouches, packs of raisins
Meats: pop-top cans of meats, cans of tuna or foil packs of tuna
Entrees:  raman noodles, pop-top cans of pasta, mac and cheese cups, pop-
top cans of soup
Other: pudding cups, cracker packs, peanut butter jars, juice boxes

 Financial donations needed too!

We can often purchase food products at discounted prices so your dollar goes farther when you donate and let us buy the food.  Food for one child is $5 a week, $20 a month, or $175 for the entire school year. Help us make sure no student goes hungry so that they can be at their best on Mondays at school.
